The mission for most not-for-profit organizations is simple; it’s all about helping people. At the same time, managing the financial needs of a successful not-for-profit business can be challenging and complex. That’s why M Group Not-for-Profit clients have relied on us to handle some or all aspects of their financial and business management needs, and to help keep their accounting and reporting compliant. Our Not-for-Profit clients have two primary goals: 1) carry out their mission; and 2) ensure all required financial reporting meets the complex and stringent not-for-profit accounting and reporting requirements, so they can continue to receive funding. Revenue for a not-for-profit comes from a number of sources, including public fundraising efforts, private donations or government grants. Many of these agreements are complex, with very specific guidelines on how the funding can be used…one of our clients received 15 separate grants, all with different spending requirements and restrictions. That is why accounting and compliance is so critical. If the financial requirements are not adhered to, and statements not filed properly, these organizations could be at risk of losing their funding. At the same time, due to tight operating budgets, most not-for-profit organizations don’t have the staffing or expertise needed to manage the financial aspects of their business.
